Rick Quimby Bio

Rick lives in Worcester MA, and has been playing piano and guitar and writing songs most of his life. During his busy professional life as a physicist, he still found time for writing songs, and in the 1980s and 1990s was involved in John Henry's Hammer Coffeehouse (Worcester), running the sound board and organizing a series of sing-along sessions. Folk and acoustic music has remained his primary musical passion, and his experience with recording music goes back to the days of 7" reel-to-reel tape decks and cassettes. Rick was a DJ for the Open Hoot folk program on WICN public radio, and during the 2000s Rick became active in accompanying The Fiddle Kids of Worcester on guitar and keyboard.

In recent years Rick has become active in the open mike circuit in the Worcester and Greater Boston area, performing both solo and with other musicians. The advent of digital audio workstations (DAWs) drew him back to recording in 2012, and since then he has increasingly spent time perfecting his skills at recording and mixing. In April 2014 Rick met lyricist and musician Linda McCarthy at an Open Mike in Worcester, and they soon discovered their mutual interest and complementary talents in song writing. Since then they have co-written many songs, and have started performing them as the duo Owengale. Rick has produced all three of Owengale's CDs at his home recording studio, Wood Thrush Music. Samples of the latest CD, "My Father's Shoes", are available here (see links on home page).
